The Two Wolves

An old legend, after Ralph Albert Blakelock

An old legend about the two wolves inside every heart. Here it is again, every picture a portrait made with Fable after Ralph Albert Blakelock’s moonlit painting Indian Encampment.

A black wolf and a white wolf rearing up to fight under the moon
An old grey wolf lying calm as a young wolf snarls beside him under the moon

One winter night, a young wolf came home snarling at the world.

The old wolf and the young wolf lying together by a small fire

The old wolf listened. Then he said:

“There is a fight inside me.”

A black wolf snarling in a moonlit forest

One wolf is dark. He is anger, envy and pride.

A white wolf standing calm under a full moon

The other is light. He is joy, peace and kindness.

The black wolf and the white wolf rearing up and fighting

They fight every day. And the same fight is inside you.

The old wolf looking down at the young wolf lying close to him

The young wolf was quiet for a long time. Then he asked:

“Which one wins?”

At dawn, the young wolf asleep against the old wolf

The old wolf answered softly.

“The one you feed.”

Every picture in this story was made with Fable, after Ralph Albert Blakelock.
