The Temple of Apollo near Hadrian’s Villa

Giovanni Battista Piranesi's 1768 etching, The Temple of Apollo near Hadrian’s Villa, is a masterwork of neoclassical art, capturing the sublime decay of Roman antiquity in dramatic black and white. This Atelier Edition is a contemporary interpretation by Surrealium, which digitally renders the scene in a rich, imagined color palette. It presents the original composition through a modern lens, creating a new way to experience a historical classic.

The new palette evokes monumental architectural light, with warm limestone, weathered bronze, and muted verdigris set against deep blue shadows. The colors give the ancient structure a tangible weight and atmosphere, bringing a sense of history and quiet drama to your space. It is a sophisticated piece that invites contemplation.

As large-scale architectural wall art, this print makes a commanding statement in a living room, study, or bedroom. It anchors a space above a sofa or console table and pairs beautifully with modern, classic, or vintage decor. It can also serve as the centerpiece for a gallery wall of architectural studies or landscape prints.

Each gallery canvas or fine-art print is made to order on matte, museum-grade paper with archival pigment inks. This exclusive color edition is developed by the Surrealium atelier, located at Kastellet, a 17th-century sea fortress. Prints are available for purchase directly.
