The Poet's Companion

A 14th-century Persian manuscript illustration, recreated as an archival fine-art print for classic and eclectic interiors.

The Poet's Companion by Muhammad ibn Badr al-Din Jajarmi — archival fine-art print from Fable

This folio is drawn from a treasured 14th-century Persian anthology of poems, 'The Free Man's Companion'. The scene captures a moment of quiet contemplation or courtly dialogue, rendered with the exquisite detail characteristic of the period. Forms are defined by crisp, delicate lines, set within a flattened perspective that draws the eye across the entire composition, from the figures' patterned robes to the stylized landscape they inhabit.

The palette is rich with jewel tones and illuminated by burnished gold accents. These deep colors and intricate patterns create a work that feels both narrative and decorative, bringing a sense of warmth, history, and worldly sophistication to any space. It invites closer looking, revealing new details with each view.

As a fine-art print, this piece adds a layer of classic elegance to a modern home. It is a compelling choice for a study, library, or living room, hanging beautifully above a desk or console. On a gallery wall, it provides a fascinating counterpoint to photographic or abstract works, creating a rich collection.

Originally created in 1341 in Iran by Muhammad ibn Badr al-Din Jajarmi, this work has been carefully restored for modern printing. Our recreation is printed to order on heavyweight, archival matte paper using pigment inks for lasting color. Each print is restored by Surrealium at Vaxholm Fortress, Sweden.
