Francisco de Goya's 'Flying Folly' (Disparate Volante) is one of the most enigmatic works from his late 'Proverbs' series. The original etching depicts a group of figures suspended in a dark, ambiguous sky, their cloaks forming great wings. This Atelier Edition is a contemporary, AI-assisted color interpretation by Surrealium, bringing a new dimension to Goya's haunting composition while crediting the original 1864 masterwork.

Where the original relies on the stark contrast of aquatint, our artists at Surrealium have introduced a restrained, nocturnal palette. Muted ochre and subdued red emerge from a charcoal darkness, rendered with chalky whites that highlight the strange, floating forms. This reinterpretation creates a dreamlike, painterly quality, offering a new way to experience the unsettling beauty of Goya's vision. You can see how this edition compares to the original museum piece.

This exclusive Surrealium Edition is available to all as an archival fine-art print or gallery canvas. Subscribers to the atelier can also unlock the ability to customize this piece, creating their own unique interpretation. Each print is made to order on museum-grade matte paper using archival pigment inks for color that lasts. The edition is prepared by Surrealium at Vaxholm Fortress, Sweden.
