Atelier Editions
A contemporary Surrealium colour interpretation, not a claim to recover the artist's intended colours.
artist: Albrecht Dürer (German, 1471–1528)
Museum original and attributionThis Atelier Edition presents a contemporary color interpretation of Albrecht Dürer's celebrated woodcut, 'The Holy Family with Three Hares' (c. 1497, 98). The original, a masterpiece of Northern Renaissance printmaking, is reimagined by Surrealium through a modern, AI-assisted digital lens. Dürer’s composition shows the Holy Family resting in a tranquil landscape, a scene rich with precise detail and masterful linework.
Where the original woodcut relies on monochrome intricacy, this edition introduces a thoughtful palette of mineral blue, muted green, and warm earth tones against an ivory ground. The new colors are digitally applied, designed to complement Dürer’s modeling and bring a new, painterly dimension to the scene. The result is a version that feels both classic and contemporary, highlighting the enduring quality of the original composition.
