Castor and Pollux occupy a star-filled sky as the Gemini, the celestial twins. The chapter recounts their different parentage and their shared courage, then presents Pollux's refusal to accept an immortality that excludes his brother. Their alternating share in death and life becomes an enduring image of fraternal devotion.

The engraving sets the pair within an unusually expansive night sky. Its quiet scale differs from the violent storms in the following plate, where the same brothers appear in their maritime role. Together, the two images connect personal loyalty with the reassurance offered by stars and divine protectors.

Historical context is adapted from the accompanying commentary by Antoine de La Barre de Beaumarchais. Its interpretations reflect the period in which the book was published.
