Artist: William Blake
Museum original and attributionEarth’s Answer is an illuminated page from William Blake’s Songs of Experience. Blake etched the plate in 1794 and continued printing and colouring impressions over the following decades. This edition follows the Met’s impression printed around 1825, where the poem, illustration and decorative border form a single work.
The text gives Earth a voice, bringing the book’s darker questions into an intimate visual setting. Surrealium’s AI-assisted edition is guided by the existing colours and composition of the museum source. The integral lettering and ornament remain part of the print, inviting you to read as well as look.
