Return of the Shepherd is one of William Blake’s wood engravings for Robert John Thornton’s Pastorals of Virgil, published in 1821. The Met’s impression is also titled Unyok’d Heifers, Loitering Homeward. Its compact horizontal landscape rewards a close look at the concentrated lines and patches of light.

Surrealium’s AI-assisted colour interpretation explores that pastoral world in a new palette. Compare it with the original wood engraving, or bring it together with other Blake landscapes from the same book.
