Evening Glow of a Lamp

An intimate ukiyo-e scene by Suzuki Harunobu. This archival print brings a mood of quiet contemplation to any room.

Evening Glow of a Lamp by Suzuki Harunobu 鈴木 春信
Japanese, 1725 (?)-1770 — archival fine-art print from Fable

In a secluded moment, two women are illuminated by the soft light of a traditional paper lantern, or andon. One holds a letter, her face gently lit from below, while her companion leans in, sharing the private scene. The composition uses delicate lines and a quiet intimacy, drawing the viewer into a personal world of 18th-century Japan.

The work's subtle and harmonious palette creates a serene atmosphere. The muted tones of their kimonos against the neutral interior infuse the scene with a poetic grace. As wall art, this print lends a reflective, peaceful quality to a room, inviting calm and contemplation.

This piece is perfectly suited for a bedroom, reading nook, or living room, where its quiet elegance can be appreciated. It complements minimalist and classic interiors, and serves as a thoughtful focal point above a console or as a key piece in a curated gallery wall.

Created by Suzuki Harunobu (c. 1725, 1770), a master of the Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print who pioneered the first full-color prints (nishiki-e). This archival reproduction is printed to order on heavyweight, matte museum-grade paper with archival pigment inks for lasting color and detail. Restored and certified by the Surrealium atelier at Kastellet, a 17th-century sea fortress in the Stockholm archipelago.
