FableBY SURREALIUM

Old worlds. New stories. Yours.

Fable brings you into the world of Surrealium: a place where art history, imagination and your own life meet. Create a portrait, discover a masterwork, find your symbols. Make something that means something.

Conceived in an atelier. Rooted in an archive. Made personal by you.

An atelier with a world of its own.

Surrealium is an independent house of art, jewelry and couture in the Stockholm archipelago. Its name brings together Surrealism and Laboratorium: the dreamlike and the experimental, working side by side. Fable is an expression of that same house, opening its visual world to your stories.

Our atelier is based inside Vaxholms Kastell, a sea fortress whose origins reach back to the 16th century. Here, the work moves between physical materials and digital tools, between the artist’s bench, the art library and the laboratory. That conversation shapes Fable.

The sensibility is shared across the house: a fascination with old worlds, expressive objects and details that reward a second look. An ornament can become the starting point for a jewel, a textile or a new image. Fable carries that way of seeing into personal art.

Before the atelier, the island.

Our address is part of the story. Vaxholms Kastell stands on a small island in the passage towards Stockholm, a place shaped by water, watchfulness and centuries of change.

The site was fortified in the 16th century, when the narrow approach to Stockholm gave Vaxholm its strategic importance. A defensive tower and a barrier across the water guarded the passage. The fortress became known as the lock of Stockholm.

The building you see today belongs to a later chapter. Between 1833 and 1863, the fortress was extensively rebuilt into its present form. Its museum opened in 1964; today the island is also a place for culture, gathering and creative work.

For Surrealium, this is a working address. The atelier’s collecting, making and experimentation sit within those older walls. Fable carries something of that meeting with it: a contemporary imagination, with history close at hand.

Years of looking. A language of our own.

Behind Fable is a curated archive of historical art, antique illustrations, ornaments and symbolism, collected and digitised over years by the Surrealium atelier. It is the result of sustained attention: finding, selecting, studying and returning to images worth keeping.

A painting offers more than a look. It holds a way of arranging light, a relationship between colours, a gesture, an atmosphere. An illustration carries a rhythm of line. An ornament has a structure. A symbol brings a story. These are the qualities we look for, and the visual knowledge that informs Fable’s world.

Digitising the collection lets that knowledge take on a new life. The archive informs our artistic direction, references and visual vocabulary; its role changes with the experience and the style. It connects contemporary creation to things that existed long before the technology.

Art & composition

Light, colour, atmosphere and the way an image holds its subject.

Illustration & line

The character of a drawn mark, the detail of a plate, the telling of a story.

Ornament & pattern

Decorative forms, borders and repetitions that give an object its identity.

Symbols & meaning

Emblems and visual stories that connect an image to an idea, a person or a family.

Many instruments. One artistic direction.

More than 50 AI models across the Fable creative system

Fable combines more than 50 AI models with Surrealium’s curated archive and artistic direction. The experience you see is the meeting of those elements: historical references, a considered visual language and digital processes brought together for a particular purpose.

No single model masters every medium. One is strongest with the glazes and candlelight of an old oil painting, another with a likeness, another with the line of an engraving or the thread of a weave. Fable matches each style to the models that serve it best, guided by the Surrealium archive, so you never have to choose between them.

Fable is a living system. As new image models appear, the Surrealium studio tests them against the archive and brings the best into the style library. With a Fable Membership you create with the newest of them every month: bring your photograph or idea, and Fable handles the complexity.

And it doesn’t stop at the screen. Fable connects digital creation with physical craftsmanship: your portrait as a print or canvas, your heraldry woven into a cushion, the paintings you love bound into a hardcover art book. Order the piece that belongs in your life, made to be held, lived with or given.

The visual foundation

Surrealium’s research and archive establish a visual vocabulary. Art direction gives each experience its character, from a portrait’s atmosphere to a heraldic composition.

Your part in the story

You bring the photograph, the person, the companion or the idea. Your choices give the work its personal meaning and guide the experience you enter.

The digital interpretation

The selected process brings your input into that visual world. The references and tools depend on what you are making; the result is yours to look at, consider and refine where the experience allows.

A life beyond the screen

Choose how the work belongs in your life. Depending on the creation, Fable offers digital editions, prints, canvas and other physical formats. Each product explains its materials and available options.

Art becomes personal when you belong inside it.

A family portrait can hold a whole chapter of life. A familiar animal can become a mythical companion. A symbol can give shape to something you have never quite found the words for. We make Fable for these encounters: the moment an image feels connected to you.

We see history as material for a living imagination. The old and the new can speak to one another. Technology makes that conversation accessible; taste, context and intention give it a direction. Our ambition is to make art that invites curiosity and stays meaningful after the first surprise.

A closer look

Does Fable use AI?

Yes. AI models are part of Fable’s digital creative process. They work within a system shaped by Surrealium’s archive, selected references and artistic direction. We describe the work as artist-led and digitally created: both parts matter.

What does the archive bring to Fable?

The archive provides a foundation for research, references and art direction. Its use varies by experience: it can inform a composition, a decorative language, a colour palette or the character of a style. It is the visual knowledge behind the work, rather than a fixed set of fragments pasted into every image.

How does my artwork become a physical piece?

Fable’s personal portraits are created digitally from your photographs. A print or canvas reproduces that digital artwork in the format you choose. Available sizes, materials and finishes are shown with each product, so you can choose the piece that belongs in your space.

Where should I begin?

Begin with the style library if you have a photograph in mind, or browse Masterworks if you want to discover art. For a personal symbol, enter Heraldry. Each experience takes you through its choices and shows the available ways to keep the result.
