How to create a Christmas card with AI from your own photos
Turn separate family and pet photos into a nostalgic Christmas card. Choose a style, add words to both sides and preview it before you order.
You can create a Christmas card with AI by uploading clear photos, choosing a festive style, reviewing the picture and adding your own greeting. In Fable, you can start with one to three separate photos, so your family, grandparents and pets do not need to be in the same original photograph. The preview is free; ordering the finished digital card or printed cards is paid.

1. Gather the people and pets you want in the card
Start with the faces, not the background. Pick photographs where eyes and facial features are easy to see, with enough light to recognise each person. A familiar expression is more useful than a perfect Christmas setting: the new scene will supply the tree, candlelight and festive atmosphere.
A practical three-photo combination is one picture of the parents and children, one of the grandparents, and one of the pets. The Christmas Around the Tree example uses exactly that idea, bringing three everyday snapshots into one family scene. You can also begin with a single couple or family photo.
Avoid tiny faces, heavy beauty filters, motion blur and eyes hidden by dark glasses. For pets, choose a view that shows their face and distinctive coat markings. Use photos you have permission to upload. If you need help choosing, read our family portrait photo guide.
2. Choose the atmosphere of your card
The three starting styles offer different moods. Compare the examples before uploading:
- Christmas Around the Tree: a candlelit gathering with family and pets around the tree. Start here when bringing several generations into one picture is the main idea.
- Dressing the Christmas Tree: an intimate decorating scene with warm lamplight. It is a natural starting point for one person, a couple or people with their pets.
- The Christmas Tree: a softer, luminous picture with pale blue tones and visible painterly brushwork. Consider it when you prefer a quieter, more delicate Christmas image.
These are AI-created, painterly pictures, rather than a record of a gathering that actually happened. The examples show the artistic direction; your own faces, poses and details will need a careful review.

3. Upload your photos and review the preview
Choose your photos on the card page and follow the creation steps. Once the preview appears, look at the people before looking at the decoration. Is everyone included? Do the faces feel familiar? Are the pets recognisable?
Enlarge the picture and check hands, eyes, glasses, clothing and where the subjects meet. AI can introduce unexpected details, so a beautiful overall scene still deserves a close inspection. Use the changes offered in the creator if the result needs another attempt; the current allowance is shown there.
Fable's free preview lets you make this decision before paying. It is a watermarked preview, not a free finished download. For more detail, see what is free when creating an AI Christmas picture.
4. Add a short greeting to the front
The picture should remain the focus. Start with a short line such as “Merry Christmas”, “Season’s Greetings” or “God Jul”, then add your family name or a brief sign-off. The card editor lets you choose lettering and ornaments and see your words on the image.
Keep longer thoughts for the message side. A simple front might read “Merry Christmas” and “With love, the Anderssons”. A personal message can then say something that belongs to your family: “Wishing you slow mornings, a full table and a Christmas together soon.”
Check names, accents, apostrophes and line breaks on the actual preview. Look at the card on a phone as well as enlarged. Make sure the words are comfortably inside the edges and do not cover a face.
5. Check both sides, then choose how to send it
Review the front and your message before ordering. The digital card includes a shareable link that opens the card for friends and family, as well as front and back pictures to keep. After purchase, you can send the link by email or WhatsApp.
The physical option is a folded greeting card, with the artwork on the front, your message inside and envelopes included. Cards are delivered to you to address and post. Check the current pack, price and delivery details at checkout; do not assume a Christmas arrival date without checking your destination.
Want the Christmas artwork without greetings or a card layout? Use the Christmas portrait creator instead. Our guide to creating a Christmas picture from separate photos explains that route.
Questions before you start
Do we need a Christmas group photo?
No. Fable's Christmas card flow accepts one to three photos. Separate family, grandparent and pet photos can be used together; review the generated result to make sure everyone appears as intended.
Is an AI Christmas card free?
The preview is free. A finished digital card and physical cards are paid products. Check the current order options after you have reviewed your design.
Can I write on the front and the back?
Yes. Add a greeting to the artwork and a personal message to the other side. For the folded printed card, that message goes inside. Preview both before ordering.
Can I make a Christmas portrait without card text?
Yes. Choose the ordinary Christmas Around the Tree portrait flow, which is separate from the card creator.
Start with the people you want to bring together. The tree and candlelight can come next.
