A lowered gaze, a softly modelled face and the loose movement of braided hair make this one of the collection’s most intimate images. The source is Leonardo da Vinci’s Head of the Virgin in Three-Quarter View Facing Right, dated 1510–13 in The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection. The original combines black chalk, charcoal and red chalk.

Surrealium’s edition develops that study in warm flesh tones, olive shadows and restrained blue. The museum drawing remains visible in the comparison so you can judge the transformation for yourself. These colours are a contemporary interpretation made with Flux and reviewed at the atelier; they are not recovered historical colours or a claim to Leonardo’s intended finish.
