William Blake created the frontispiece to Songs of Experience in 1794. The source for this edition is the Met’s impression printed around 1825, a relief etching coloured by hand with watercolour and shell gold. It opens the darker companion to Songs of Innocence, where image and verse explore a world shaped by experience.

The compact composition and richly worked border invite close looking. Surrealium’s AI-assisted edition follows the coloured museum source, preserving the relationship between the central image and its surrounding ornament. View the original beside the edition and consider pairing it with the Songs of Innocence frontispiece.
