A crest for a farm, ranch or country estate
Farms have used marks for as long as there have been gates. How to design a crest for a farm or estate, its farm shop and every gift that leaves it.
A mark for the gate
Farms have always marked what is theirs: a brand on cattle, a sign on the gate, a name painted on the barn. A crest takes that tradition and makes it fit for a farm shop, a wedding barn, a box of apples sent at Christmas or the letterhead of a family estate.
The Hartley crest
Illustrative scene made from a real Fable design; not a photograph of a delivered order.
Hartley Farm’s red shield shows an oak with silver acorns and a white stag beneath it. On a gift tag tied to a hamper of apples, honey and bread, with the words Since 1921, it tells customers they are buying from a family.
The design up close

A design made with Fable Heraldry: a decorative emblem, not a grant of arms.
One tree, one animal, one border. That restraint is why it reads on a tag. If your farm has a famous animal, a breed you keep or a tree everyone knows, that is your charge.
Ranch brands and crests
A ranch already has a brand. A crest can include it: a brand mark set on a shield with a horse or a steer above is a natural fit and keeps the history visible.
Where it goes
Gate sign, farm shop, hamper tags, invoices to restaurants you supply, certificates for prize stock and the letterhead for the estate. The same emblem on every piece makes a small farm feel like a name.
