A mark for a private medical practice
How to choose an emblem for a private practice, why the rod of Asclepius is not the caduceus, and how a quiet mark builds trust on every referral letter.
Trust before the first appointment
A private practice is chosen before anyone meets the doctor: from a referral letter, a website or a card passed on by a friend. A medical logo has to say competence and care without saying hospital. The old emblem tradition does this better than a heartbeat line.

Medicine’s traditional symbol is the rod of Asclepius: a single snake around a plain staff. The caduceus, two snakes and a pair of wings, is the staff of Hermes, god of messengers and merchants, and is often used for medicine by mistake. Holloway Medical carry the rod on their arms, on letterhead and appointment card alike.
Other quiet symbols
A lamp suggests care through the night. An oak suggests a family practice. A red cross on white is a protected emblem under the Geneva Conventions, so leave it out entirely. A monogram of the practice’s initials is always safe and always looks established.
Colour and restraint
Deep green, navy and a warm gold read as serious and kind. Keep the mark small on letters; a referral letter is a clinical document first. The emblem should look like a signature, not an advertisement.
Where it is used

Letterhead for referrals and reports, appointment cards, invoices for self-paying patients and a compliments slip for returning records. If all of them share one mark and one typeface, the practice looks organised before anyone has called.

Fable draws a monogram or crest from your practice’s name, its story and the symbol you suggest. The preview is free. The Business pack gives you commercial use in writing, brand files and a stationery collection with letterhead, business cards, appointment cards and invoices, with Word versions. A Fable design is a decorative emblem, not a grant of arms.
