A broad black hat, a turned shoulder and a direct gaze give this portrait its presence. The source is Paulus Pontius’s 1630 engraving after Peter Paul Rubens, held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Surrealium’s contemporary colour interpretation brings crimson to the drapery, cool blue to the background and warm gold to the engraved architectural surround. Made with Flux and reviewed beside the museum image, it offers a new reading of the print. These are the atelier’s colour choices, not recovered historical colours.

See the complete original beside the edition, then choose a fine-art print or canvas through Masterworks. The edition can be ordered as shown without a subscription. Personal colour variations are reserved for active subscribers.
