Atelier Editions
A contemporary Surrealium colour interpretation, not a claim to recover the artist's intended colours.
Artist: Rembrandt (Rembrandt van Rijn)
Museum original and attributionRembrandt turns towards the viewer beneath a broad cap, one arm resting across a stone sill. This edition begins with his 1639 self-portrait in etching, drypoint and burin, preserved in The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection.
Surrealium’s colour interpretation gives the clothing deep crimson and warm brown, with ochre light across the face and curls. The original etched marks and open ground can be studied beside the new edition. Made with Flux and reviewed at the atelier, this is a contemporary colour study, not a claim to recover Rembrandt’s intended palette.
