Atelier Editions
A contemporary Surrealium colour interpretation, not a claim to recover the artist's intended colours.
artist: Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italian, 1720–1778)
Museum original and attributionThis work begins with Giovanni Battista Piranesi's original 1775 etching, The Isola Tiberina, a masterful depiction of the island in Rome's Tiber river. Piranesi, a master of the Neoclassical style, captured the monumental scale and enduring presence of Roman architecture, from the ancient Ponte Fabricio to the structures on the island itself. His original black-and-white plate is celebrated for its dramatic composition and intricate detail.
This Atelier Edition is a contemporary, AI-assisted color interpretation by Surrealium. It reimagines Piranesi's vision with a new palette of warm limestone, aged bronze, muted verdigris, and deep blue shadows. The result is a print that explores the play of light on ancient stone, bringing a new mood and depth to the historic scene. This is a modern homage, not a historical restoration of original colors.
Our archival fine-art prints of this exclusive Surrealium edition are available for purchase by all collectors, with no subscription required. For active subscribers, advanced options to customize the work's coloration and composition are available within the Fable studio.
Each piece is printed to order in the European Union on heavyweight, museum-grade matte paper with archival pigment inks for color that lasts. This contemporary edition is created by the Surrealium atelier at Kastellet, a 17th-century sea fortress in the Stockholm archipelago, with credit to the original master, Giovanni Battista Piranesi.
