Atelier Editions
A contemporary Surrealium colour interpretation, not a claim to recover the artist's intended colours.
Artist: Albrecht Dürer
Museum original and attributionThis Atelier Edition is a contemporary color interpretation of Albrecht Dürer's 1503 engraving, Coat of Arms with a Skull. The original work, held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a masterclass in Northern Renaissance line and form. Our edition, created by the Surrealium atelier, uses new digital methods to introduce a full-color palette to Dürer's iconic composition, offering a modern vision of a historic masterpiece.
Where the original relies on the stark power of black and white, this interpretation introduces a palette of mineral blue, muted greens, and warm earth tones against an ivory background. This new color deepens the work's haunting, dreamlike atmosphere while preserving the precise modeling that defines Dürer's genius. The result is a piece that feels both classic and contemporary, fitting as wall art for spaces from minimalist to traditional.
This exclusive Surrealium edition is available as a gallery-quality archival print, made to order on matte, museum-grade paper with pigment inks that will not fade. A Fable subscription is not required to purchase this fine-art print. Active subscribers, however, gain access to tools for further creative customization. Each piece is prepared by the Surrealium atelier at Kastellet, a 17th-century fortress in the Stockholm archipelago.
