Atelier Editions
A contemporary Surrealium colour interpretation, not a claim to recover the artist's intended colours.
artist: Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italian, 1720–1778)
Museum original and attributionThis work is a contemporary interpretation of The Temple of Jupiter Tonans, an 18th-century etching by the celebrated Italian artist and printmaker Giovanni Battista Piranesi. The original black-and-white plate, known for its dramatic scale and detail, has been reimagined by the Surrealium atelier through an AI-assisted process, introducing a new dimension of color and light to Piranesi's vision of ancient Rome.
Our exclusive edition renders the scene in a palette of warm limestone, aged bronze, and muted verdigris, set against deep blue shadows. This modern colorway emphasizes the monumental architectural forms and the play of light across the Roman ruins, creating a piece that feels both classical and current. It brings a sense of quiet grandeur to a living room, study, or gallery wall.
This Surrealium edition is available to all as an archival fine-art print. Each piece is made to order on matte, museum-grade paper using archival pigment inks for lasting color. While this interpretation is offered as shown, Fable subscribers have the option to further customize the work. All editions are prepared by the Surrealium atelier at Kastellet, a 17th-century fortress in the Stockholm archipelago.
