How to Choose a Photo for a Personalised Pet Cushion

Four practical tips for choosing a dog or pet photo for a custom cushion, from clear faces and natural light to checking the final preview.

A personalised dog cushion starts with a surprisingly small decision: which photograph feels most like them? The useful image is usually the one with a clear face and a familiar expression. You do not need a studio portrait, a costume or a carefully arranged background.

Use this short checklist before creating your Fable Cushion, especially if you are making a gift from a photo sent by someone else.

1. Put the face before the scenery

Choose the photograph where you can see the eyes, nose and shape of the muzzle clearly. A beautiful holiday view is less useful if the dog is a small blur in the distance. Keep the original file where possible: a photo forwarded repeatedly, or saved from a tiny social thumbnail, may have lost the detail you want to preserve.

2. Use soft light and keep the ears

Daylight near a window or outdoors in open shade is a helpful starting point. Strong shadows can conceal the markings that make a pet distinctive; glare can flatten pale fur. Look for a photograph with a natural expression and visible ears. If one ear is folded in the pet’s usual way, that may be part of the character you want.

The aim is recognition, not photographic perfection. Fable creates the artistic setting from your chosen design.

3. Match the photograph to the subject

For a pet-only style, make the intended pet clear in the photograph. If you want the person and pet together, choose the dedicated You and your pet direction and a photo that shows them both. Avoid relying on a distant face or a subject hidden behind another animal.

For a gift, asking for a favourite original photo can be more useful than silently guessing from a profile picture. You can keep the design itself as the surprise.

4. Review the details before ordering

Inspect the preview at a comfortable size. Look for the right face shape, familiar fur markings and a pose that feels like your companion. If you have chosen a name, check every letter. Then think about the room: does the palette sit happily beside the chair, rug or blanket you have in mind?

The cushion is a woven object, so judge the composition as a whole as well as the face. Its purpose is to hold together across the room and still feel personal when you sit beside it.
